Srisombat - Performing Arts Staff
I
was born in a village in the Northeast of Thailand on the Laotian
border very close to the Mekhong River. Everyone in my village was
Buddhist and when I was young, I believed very deeply in the power
of magical Buddhist amulets. These were usually images of monks
or my ancestors that I wore around my neck for protection.
After I finished high school, I went with a friend to Bangkok to
enroll at Ram 2 University. He arranged for us to stay at a dorm
near the campus. I didnt realize that it was a Christian dorm
run by YWAM called House
of One Heart (BJD). I wasnt too happy about it being a
Christian place but I didnt have anywhere else to go. I decided
to look for somewhere else to stay but, soon after getting there,
I got sick with a high fever. I was very impressed with the way
the Christian guys took care of me. I chose to stay at BJD and after
some of the Christians told me about Jesus, I decided to pray to
accept Him as my Saviour. I still had my amulets and kept them hidden
away. Then, as I learned more about God, I began to realize that
I didnt need them anymore and I got rid of them.
During
my Discipleship
Training School (DTS), I learned how to play guitar and keyboards
and was trained in sound engineering. Afterwards, I joined the staff
of YWAM Thailands new Performing Arts and Worship Ministry.
I then took a break to attend the first YWAM School
of Worship in Bangkok in February 2004.
Now
I am working on recording new Thai music and videos that will spread
the Gospel in Thailand and will encourage Thai Christians. It is
a privilege to serve the Lord in Thailand. Thank you for your prayers
and support!
June
2008 Update
It
has been over three months since I wrote any news. We've been doing
a lot of things during that time.
In March we went to do a worship seminar at the bible school in
Sri Rachaa. We had several people from churches in the area come
and join. It's the first time that we've led a worship seminar without
Paul and Yam (they were in the States) and God really blessed our
time teaching and leading worship.
As
I wrote in the last newsletter we went to Khanchanaburi to help
with a discipleship training week (DTW). They had several new Christians
at the church there. Many of them didn't even know where to find
the book of John in the bible. They also needed to be baptized. Out
team helped with leading worship and Gai and myself helped to lead
a small group and encourage them. It was exciting to see the new
Christians that were so hungry to learn about God. Arun told us
since the DTW that they have been growing a lot and many more are
coming to the Lord. We had a team from the school in Sri Rachaa
come help us during this time so it was neat to see them after having
led the worship seminar at their school.
After
that we came to Bangkok to rest for one day and then drove 12 hours
to Chiang Rai to help lead worship at a conference on frontier missions
put on by YWAM. There were people from many countries around Asia.
Many of them had never had the opportunity to worship in a large
group with a worship band as it may not be possible in their countries. It
was fun to see them worship and experience God in this time.
In
a few weeks we'll be leading worship at a camp for the international
Christian school here. There will be about 200 7th and 8th graders
at the camp.About 60% of them are not Christian so there will be
a big focus on evangelism. Please
pray that God will anoint all of the staff from the school and our
team as we go help. We would like to see them come to the
Lord during this time.
We've
been asked to help with a big worship meeting after the camp. They're
hoping over 20,000 Thais will come together to worship. Please keep
us in prayer as we prepare to be a part of this....
I'm working on the new CD in the Isaan (Northeastern) style. So
far I've been doing guides and starting to work on some of the different
rhythm parts (keys and guitar). We're also going in the studio and
doing the last of the vocals for the Footprints worship cd.
Shine is starting a new cd of his worship music too and I'll be
helping some with that. We're also hoping to be able to start building
the walls on our studio in the near future. Please keep us in prayer
as we're doing these projects..we really want the Lord to anoint
us and the music so that it will draw people to Him...
Gai
is doing more ministry now since she graduated. She's been helping
more with the dance ministry, both dancing and helping with various
projects to help raise money for them to go to China during the
Olympics. She won't go but she's helping them prepare. She's
also a very good wife and takes good care of me:)
In a few weeks Gai and I are planning to go visit my family in my
home town. I'll help my parents in the fields while I'm there. I
haven't been home for over 2 years so I'm looking forward to being
there. I'm hoping that everything works out with schedule and all. Please
pray for us as we plan for this trip.
Thank
you for all of your prayers and support. Hope to hear from you and
may God bless you all,
Tan and Gai
