Jame Khamyar
Child Sponshorship Program Staff
Miss
Chanisara Khamyar, or "Jame" as she is known by her friends,
was born in Chiang Rai.
I am the youngest of 2 girls in my Christian family. Since I can
remember, we were a poor family and my dad had to work abroad. Mom
has been the one who took care of us. However, dad always kept in
touch. I knew and learned about God and the Christian life from
very young. We would go to church every Sunday and were involved
in church activities. Mom always taught us to be good children and
to study hard because she never had the chance to study like other
people and she knew first hand the hardships not having an education
would bring, so she wanted her children to have the best education
possible.
I was always a good child, obeyed my parents’ teachings and
never walked away from God’s ways until I became a teenager.
I moved away from home for my education and moved into a dormitory,
so I followed my friends, received many wrong values of life and
did not pay attention to my studies, even skipped school. I liked
to go out at night, lied a lot and spent lots of money. I was so
lost from God’s will. Most times I felt guilty but couldn’t
change my behaviour. However, God never left me, He was waiting
for me to come back to him.
When I just finished my studies, I was working for a private company.
Everything went well, but I started to drift away from God’s
way even more. I was too tired to go to worship on Sunday and still
liked to go out at nights. I felt ashamed and guilty to meet with
God so I began not to pray. I did not have my quiet times in the
mornings. However, God never left me, many times He would speak
to me through his servants. I still ignored him and continued my
old ways. I felt so bad spiritually and had no peace at work at
all. Until one day, I couldn’t continue the way I was, so
I decided to quit my job. All my work colleagues and my boss were
surprised, but I did not hesitate at all. After I left work and
waiting for something to come up I was helping with my families
small business, then I heard about YWAM’s – Project
LIFE from a friend and that they had a vacancy working in the Child
Sponsorship Program.
I was very interested and thought that it was a good job because
this project gives poor children the opportunities to have an education
which is very important for their future and it is also a Christian
organization. So I applied and prayed to God that if this was His
will then please give me this job. A few days later, I received
good news from the Project Manager. I was so happy and started working
there at the end of August 2005. God has good plans for those who
seek Him.
Spiritually, I continue to grow and remain close in Him. Under some
pressure of life, I have learned to depend on God more. I have lots
of peace at work on a daily basis, although my pay is not as good
as if I worked for a secular company. However, this cannot compare
with the joy and peace I have when I see many poor children receiving
the opportunity to study and better their futures, because of this
project. This feeling cannot compare with any money at all.
If
you would like to know more of what I am doing,
please don't hesitate to contact me.
