....in worship of the Lord

We all have giftings in the Lord.
How are you using your gifts to worship Him?
For me, rhythm, dancing, and movement brings me to a deeper relationship with God who is worthy of honor. That’s what comes from my heart...

My name is Daow which means "Star". I’ve been a Christian over 5 years now. Growing up my family was Buddhist. I have five brothers and sisters and I’m the youngest. Phang Nga province in the south is where I grew up but I now live in Bangkok. My Father passed away right before I came to study university here in Bangkok 6 years ago. In my first year of univeristy I came to know the Lord at House of One Heart (Baan Jai Diaow or BJD), a student ministry of YWAM. In my second year at BJD my mother also passed away.

Daow's FamilyGod showed me His grace in my life in a special way. It says in His Word that he won’t forget the orphan. After my parents (and grandparents) had died he led a Christian Thai family to take me as their daughter. (see picture on left)

This was truly His grace in my life and I knew without a doubt that He was always watching over me.

God's Call On My Life

In my third year at BJD I began ministry with the dance team using dance in worship. As I ministered with the team I began to realize this is the area where I felt I wanted to serve the Lord. In my fourth year I decided to go study Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Chaing Mai in the north of Thailand. This is the first step to being staff with YWAM.

Daow performingIn my DTS I was challenged and God changed my life in many ways. God showed me more about myself, about my life, and gave me more clarity about my goals in life.

In February of 2005 I had to take my first step away from BJD and began to work as staff. To make a little money I was able to clean the YWAM office for 3000 baht/month. During that time I felt the Lord was checking my heart to see just how faithful I was in following Him. Finally He challenged me to choose to do what He had called me to do and trust in Him. I realized He had given more of a heart to use dance and the need to learn more about dancing. So I decided to stop working so I could concentrate on improving my talents and follow Him in what He was calling me to do.

What Am I Doing Right Now

Dancers Right now I’m working with the Performing Arts Ministry in YWAM Bangkok. The Perfoming Arts Ministry is a fairly new ministry in Bangkok. I’m the leader for the dance ministry. Right now I’m concentrating on using traditional Thai dance and incorporating it in worship. I’m currently taking more lessons in traditional Thai dance. I teach and take teams to various places to use the dance in worship. When they have a DTS I go help teach some of the dances we do for the DTS to use in outreach. Throughout the year I’ll be working in camps and different schools to teach dancing as well as leading teams to minister in dance throughout Thailand.

November 2007 Update

How have you been in the last three months? During the last three months I’ve had the opportunity to go and minister in the provinces. Compared to the three months before I was able to to minister more and more. I was excited to go to each place whether it was a DTS worship in Mae Sot, the YWAM staff conference in Khon Gaen, ministering in dance in the Asia Pacific YWAM meeting in Chiang Mai , or by teaching dances to the DTS in Chiang Mai for them to use on outreach, dancing at an evangelistic meeting at ABAC (a university near us), teaching dance and sharing at Krabi province, sharing dance at Newsong church, or worshiping in dance at the Pattaya Praise festival. I got to meet new people, hear new teaching, and hear exciting testimony.

For the past two years I’ve seen how the vision of the Performing arts dance team has been fulfilled through using the Thai classical dance in worship to share with young people and children about God. I’ve seen the ministry go to many places and seen ministries as they have used what we’ve shared as they do ministry themselves.

In one way this has been a seed that we’ve placed in the lives of the children that we’ve taught. When they dance they are singing the worship songs and it’s allowing their parents to see and hear about Jesus. When we’ve danced at places where people don’t know the Lord, they see and have joy as they experience the dance and hear the music that is talking about God. Without realizing it they are giving glory to God. I and the others on the team have a great hope that we will see the kingdom of God go out in a greater way. In the future every person that sees and hears will have a seed planted that will gradually grow so that God can work in their hearts. As this seed grows one day they will come to truly know God.

For myself, I’m glad for the burden that God has given me for the future to go minister in my home in the South. Right now I’m getting ready to graduate from university in February of next year. I have actually finished my courses already. After that I have a plan to go study the School of Biblical Studies (SBS) in Chiang Mai starting the 18 of February. It’s a four month course. It’s another step in preparing myself to serve the Lord. It will help me to be more effective in evangelizing, discipling, encouraging, and taking care of others. Please pray that God will produce great fruit in the plans and ministry I will be doing.

Prayer Points:

1. Please pray for my monthly support. I need about 7,000 baht/month.
2. Please pray for my family to open their hearts to know God.
3. Please pray for creativity to think of new ways to use for evangelism and for a place we can use to practice .
4. Please pray for God’s preparation to go minister in the South in the future.
5. Please pray for the provision of my tuition fees for SBS (20,000 Baht).

I want to thank everyone that supports me in prayer and finances. Thank you for being a part of my ministry here.

May God bless all of you tremendously!

Finances

YWAM is self supported and all staff and ministry are self supported. That means that we rely on the gifts from our brothers and sisters in Christ to be able to minister. There are costs involved in training, traveling, costumes, and basic day to day needs as staff (housing, food, etc.) My monthly expenses are as follows:

  • Housing 1000 baht ($25 US)
  • Food and other expenses 6,000 baht ($150 US)

Currently I’m short about 3000 baht ($75 US) per month to meet my expenses.
