....in worship of the Lord
We all have giftings in the Lord.
How are you using your gifts to worship Him?
For me, rhythm, dancing, and movement brings me to a deeper relationship
with God who is worthy of honor. That’s what comes from my
heart...
My name is Daow which means "Star". I’ve been a
Christian over 5 years now. Growing up my family was Buddhist. I
have five brothers and sisters and I’m the youngest. Phang
Nga province in the south is where I grew up but I now live in Bangkok.
My Father passed away right before I came to study university here
in Bangkok 6 years ago. In my first year of univeristy I came to
know the Lord at House
of One Heart (Baan Jai Diaow or BJD), a student ministry of
YWAM. In my second year at BJD my mother also passed away.
God
showed me His grace in my life in a special way. It says in His
Word that he won’t forget the orphan. After my parents (and
grandparents) had died he led a Christian Thai family to take me
as their daughter. (see picture on left)
This was truly His grace in my life and I knew without a doubt that
He was always watching over me.
God's Call On My Life
In my third year at BJD I began ministry with the dance team using
dance in worship. As I ministered with the team I began to realize
this is the area where I felt I wanted to serve the Lord. In my
fourth year I decided to go study Discipleship
Training School (DTS) in Chaing Mai in the north of Thailand.
This is the first step to being staff with YWAM.
In
my DTS I was challenged and God changed my life in many ways. God
showed me more about myself, about my life, and gave me more clarity
about my goals in life.
In February of 2005 I had to take my first step away from BJD and
began to work as staff. To make a little money I was able to clean
the YWAM office for 3000 baht/month. During that time I felt the
Lord was checking my heart to see just how faithful I was in following
Him. Finally He challenged me to choose to do what He had called
me to do and trust in Him. I realized He had given more of a heart
to use dance and the need to learn more about dancing. So I decided
to stop working so I could concentrate on improving my talents and
follow Him in what He was calling me to do.
I worked with the Performing Arts Ministry in Bangkok for 5 years – using Thai dance to worship God. I was able to use this gift all around Thailand. And when I did this, I could see the Thai youth in many places start to use Thai culture and mix it into a form of worship for God. This became my goal.
I concentrated on using traditional Thai dance and incorporating it in worship. I took more lessons in traditional Thai dance. I taught and led teams to various places throughout Thailand to use dance in worship. When there was a DTS I went to help teach some of the dances to the students for their outreach. I was also able to teach dancing in camps and different schools.
After 5 years of working with Performing Arts, when I saw my goal had been used to its potential, I felt led to step out and work on the other goals God had been placing in my heart. I studied in the Leadership Training School (LTS), and God grew in my heart a vision to see the youth in my home village come to know God, just like I came to know Him. I realized that I need to learn more about God and be trained more in taking care of people before I can put this vision into action by moving back to my village. Whatever happens I give my vision to God. It’s all for Him to prepare in His timing, and it’s up to Him when He leads me back to my village.
After the LTS I went to study in Chiang Mai at the School of Biblical Studies (SBS), and I thought after my SBS that I would be able to go back to my village, but God had something different in mind.
What I Am Doing Right Now
Now is the time to learn from God about how to take care of others, to nurture and disciple them in their relationship with God. I am learning this by being staff at the DTS in Chiang Rai. When I finished my SBS, God asked me to come to Chiang Rai and help on DTS staff here, and I can keep teaching worship through Thai dance to the children in the Chiang Rai area too.
May 2009 Update
I feel like the last three months have been very long. There have been a lot of new and
exciting experiences for me. I'm sure you've had a lot of new experiences yourselves because God
has something new for us everyday to learn and grow in Him. The reason I started out like this is
because I want to share my new experience on outreach between the first and second halves of the
DTS lecture phase. for example, we went to a village where the was no electricity or running water,
no bathrooms, and no beds. We lived with the brothers and sisters there. Some of the people in the
village were not Christians and some were already Christians but didn't go to church very often. We
spent two weeks with them, prayed for them, built relationships, and shared experiences. We were
able to teach and share with them as well as build a new church for them. After we left, the pastor
called and excitedly shared that they had more than 200 people come to worship. Thank God! This
was an experience that I was able to see, touch, and know the greatness of God. I saw God
working through His ministers. We were the water that God poured out on the seeds that were
already sown to bring life one more time. Thank God! This was our first outreach experience on this
DTS.
We came back to have lectures again for a month before the main outreach., I had the
opportunity to teach at the DTS about our freedom through the grace of God written about in Galations 5-6. It was an experience that I
thought I could not do but I trusted God and let His Spirit lead. I felt the grace of God and His
wisdom help me to be more assured in sharing and teaching. When it came to the second outreach
from May 26 to April 9 I had the opportunity to share in churches. I felt that I had gotten so much
from studying SBS. Thank God He prepares for the future and prepares the details for what will
happen to us before it ever occurs. When that day comes we can do the things God wants us to do
because it's His plan. He's prepared it already. Now I know that when God calls us to do anything
we don't have to worry because we will see His answer in the proper time.
In the second outreach, we went out in faith. We prayed and listened for God's
voice. My team went to Payao and that's the only information we had. When we got there we prayed
about where to go, what to do, where to stay, to walk or to go in a vehicle. We prayed together to God
everyday before going out and followed His voice. He led us
to evangelize at the market, go to the hospital, to prayer walk in
various Buddhist temples that were important for Buddhism, to
work with children in a ministry there, and to visit and minister at churches in Payao. I want to
share an experience that I was really impressed by. It happened when God led us to go pray
and share with patients in the hospital. First we prayed for children after asking permission
from the parents. Thank God they didn't reject or come against us but accepted gladly. When
we were praying for one child we felt like God led us to share with them about God. We began sharing about the love of God and how
much He loves us.
The child's mother started crying and asked us to pray for her. Thank God. Another thing that happened that
day: We went to pray for a Laotian sister that had gone to the hospital to have her baby. After talking to her we found out she believes
in Jesus. Before we came in she had been praying asking God to help with payment for her hospital stay. She didn't have any money
to pay for the bill and was not allowed to leave until she paid because she didn't have a citizenship card. After we talked we prayed
for her. Then we went off to pray with our group and see how God wanted us to help her. He spoke to all of us to help with the
bill. We received an amount from Him to give to her. When we went back it was the exact amount she needed! We hadn't asked her
before we prayed how much she needed. This taught me to see God's heart for all of us, nor matter where we are or what our
situation is, God's help goes out to all those who cry to Him. I also saw how in prayer, when we know and understand God's heart, we
can pray for Him to help others and we will hear and have a clear answer from Him. I also learned it was not just that day that I saw it
happen but we need to pray for others like this everyday.
During this outreach and learned a lot and received many blessings. i believe that that all of you who read this are also
Prayer Points
- For me to grow in God everyday
- For wisdom and strength in serving God and taking care of the students
- For my older siblings and their families in the south
- For my palm trees, that I'll have enough money to take care of them
- For the big outreach from June 21 to July 25
I pray that God will work in all of your hearts to bless you.
I want to thank everyone that supports me in prayer and finances. Thank you for being a part of my ministry here.
May God bless all of you tremendously!
Finances
YWAM is self supported and all staff and ministry are self
supported. That means that we rely on the gifts from our brothers
and sisters in Christ to be able to minister. There are costs involved
in training, traveling, costumes, and basic day to day needs as
staff (housing, food, etc.) My monthly expenses are as follows:
- Staff Fees: 1100 baht (US $25)
- Food and other expenses 6,000 baht (US $150)
Currently I’m short about 3000 baht (US $75) per month to meet my expenses.
