YWAM Thailand - Helping Thais reach their destiny in Christ

Dagmar Geiger

Dagmar GeigerMy name is Dagmar Geiger and I am from the German speaking part of Switzerland. I came to Thailand in May 2002.

Before living here, I served with YWAM in San Francisco, USA since September 1996. I made the decision to go to America in 1996 for my DTS as I wanted to improve my English. Before going to America, I did not speak a word of English!! J Our God who created languages and cultures has certainly been gracious to me – now I can speak both English and Thai!

In Switzerland, I was a teacher for 5 years. My training as a teacher helped me greatly while being on staff of DTS’ in San Francisco and leading outreach teams. My other responsibilities included leading short term mission outreaches and training new staff and volunteers.

While on an outreach to Thailand in 1998, God put a desire in my heart for this nation and her people. My passion for reaching the lost, discipleship and training increased over the years that followed. I felt God prepare me as I staffed 3 DTS’ and participated in the outreaches to Thailand and Vietnam. With that I kept returning to Thailand once a year and the burden in my heart grew each time.

Radio SpotAt a conference in 2000, I felt God gave me the release to start preparing to come to Thailand in an active way. I finished up my commitment in San Francisco in September 2001. After returning to Switzerland, I spent 3 months studying in the School of Biblical Studies Core Course (SBSCC). I then had a wonderful 4 months with my family in Switzerland before coming to Bangkok, Thailand.

I spent my first 18 months in language study. Since February 2005, I am part of the leadership team of BJD, a ministry to University students. This is such an exciting time in my life. I am so grateful to God and for the way He has led and prepared me to come here. I love being involved with our students as they are Thailand’s future and I can be a part of their lives!

Ways that you can be praying for me

  • Please pray for us as we share the gospel among University students.
  • Pray for our students that they will grow in their knowledge of the Lord and have His passion for the lost.
  • Please pray for me as I serve in Thailand. Every day I have to use either Thai or English – neither of which is my mother tongue!

Fall 2007 Update

Dad's 70th birthday
DadIn my last newsletter I shared about going home to Switzerland for my dad's 70th birthday. This is a significant year for a Swiss and I am grateful that I was able to share this special occasion with my family. It was a very special time together and I felt my dad was deeply blessed. I was able to be home on his actual birthday as well for his big family celebration. My dad was even on the front page of the local newspaper on his big day, thanks to a friend of his who formerly owned the newspaper. For days on end, people came by and visited, stopped him on the streets, called, wrote notes, etc. My dad was beaming with joy to say the least. For all that know him that was the best thing to happen for him. He loves to be with people ;-)

PRAYER POINT: My dad is still facing some personal difficulties in his job and needs a breakthrough very soon. I would still covet your prayers for that. Being home for my dad's birthday gave me a chance to see my nephew. He was born 3 days before I left Switzerland in the spring. This time I was able to enjoy him and his smiles melted my heart! My niece Jamina is growing cuter with every day passing. I am such a proud Auntie ;-)

My God-daughter Anna had her dedication during that time as well. For me, as her God-mother, it was a special blessing to be a part in the celebration and to witness her dedication!

Trip to USA
FriendsAs you know, I needed to renew my 1 year visa. I also took this opportunity to visit with friends and supporters of the ministry I serve with called BJD in YWAM Thailand. It was also a special time to visit with my own church in San Francisco as well as my own friends and supporters. I am so grateful and glad to have been able to meet with so many of you on this trip. I want to thank you so very much again for your hospitality and warmth and friendship that was given to me.

I was also able to take Boy Changlek (a Thai) who co-leads the ministry of BJD with me. Boy became a believer through BJD and is now not only on staff, but a leader as well. It was very special to be able to introduce him to so many of you and to have him share about his life and what God is calling him to do. Please continue to pray for Boy as he is the only believer in his family and village in the North East of Thailand.

Boy in San FranBoy was especially blessed to stay in many of your homes. Your lives and relationships as Christians - as a couple and as a family - left a very lasting and good impression on him and I know he will remember his time in the USA for many, many years.

It was so much fun to see him touch snow for the first time in Lake Tahoe and to see that in many photos he has a very fixed smile on his face. When I asked him about that, his answer was: "I was so cold, I could not MOVE my face!!" God is good!! :-)

Taking a break in Singapore
I am presently here taking a much needed break over Christmas. It has been nice to rest, read, sleep in and take in the sights and sounds of Christmas here in Singapore. I arrived on Dec 19 and will be here till Dec 30.

Glad Tidings is coming!

Church teamI am really glad and blessed that my church is coming for a short missions trip after Christmas to work and serve alongside BJD. This is the church that I consider my "home" church in the USA when I was serving with YWAM in SF for 5 years.

I can't wait to meet them at the airport in BKK and just to share my life and ministry in Thailand with them. Please do pray for them and for their time here. Many in the team have never been in Asia before.

THANK YOU!
... to each of you. Your support and encouragement through friendship, prayer and giving means so much to me. Thank you also for your partnership in what God has called me to here in Thailand. It has been a very exciting and fulfilling year. I look forward to 2008 and what He has in store for me personally as well as for BJD, the ministry I serve in.

May God bless you richly this Christmas!
