Ahmee
Yerjae - Eden House Staff
My name is Charinrat Yerjae, but people call me Ahmee.
Im 24 years old. I grew up in an Akha village in northern
Thailand. When I was very young, my mother left my two brothers
and me. The three of us lived from house to house, moving on as
families grew tired of us.
When I was 10, a friend applied for me to live in a Christian dormitory.
While there I heard people talking about Jesus. I couldnt
accept it. I didnt accept anything easily.
One day my brother came to see me and said he didnt have the
money to pay for my dorm expenses anymore so I would have to quit
school and go home. I thought of God then; I had heard that we could
ask Him for things, so I decided to give Him a try and see if He
would help me. I prayed, "God, if you are real, please let
me go to school and have money for the dorm." I waited for
a week. I didnt see anything happen, so I went to see the
dorm pastor to tell him I was leaving. He asked why; I said I had
no money. He asked me what my name was then checked my records.
He looked up and told me someone had paid my dorm fees all the way
through ninth grade. I didnt have to leave. God had answered
my cry for help.
Soon
after a farang (westerner) opened a new Christian childrens
home. I wanted to learn more about Christianity so I went there.
After I had been there a little while, my life began to change.
I begun to see I needed God, and I became hungry for His Word. Id
get up at three and four in the morning to read my Bible. I accepted
the Lord and was baptized there at the childrens home. I begun
having dreams of myself in a university student uniform and taking
care of children. I told God I would just commit all that to Him
and His time.
Shortly thereafter, a major trial came into my life. I went on staff
with a new childrens home for Akha children. While I was there,
I was hurt severely by one of the missionaries. My world was shattered.
I didnt understand why a missionary would hurt me like that.
I wondered why God would let that happen to me, and I wanted to
kill myself. I began believing lies: I saw my dreams to finish school
vanish and I thought I would never have a chance to go again. I
became angry with God; I didnt want anything to do with Him
anymore.
Then
one day a letter came from a friend who was a student in a Bible
college. He didnt know what was going on in my life, but his
letter encouraged me. At about the same time, Vern and Audrey McCauley
asked me to be on staff at Eden House. I didnt have to think
about it. I said yes.
I moved in with their family and started to get to know them. I
was still angry and didnt trust anyone after what had happened
to me. Finally I sat down with Audrey and told her what had happened.
She helped me work through it and I began to trust again. I told
God I would serve Him and do anything He wanted me to do, and He
had me do my Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Chiang Rai.
I realized during my DTS that deep in my heart I had not forgiven
the person who had hurt me. I was able to work through it and seek
his forgiveness. The situation was restored. I began to see that
my life was valuable, to God and to others. I thought of the time
when I wanted to kill myself. I was so thankful to God for keeping
me from that. I learned so many things at DTS, and after I finished,
I went back to Eden House and was able to teach the girls some of
what I had learned.
Im
now a third year student at Ratjaphat University in Chiang Rai.
Im taking Early Childhood Education and working at Eden House
full time. My goal is to teach young children about God from an
early age so their life doesnt have to be like mine was. Now
I can thank God for everything that happened to me in my life; they
have helped make me a stronger person and who I am today.
I know that
God had a plan for me all along. And now He is making my dreams
come true.
