God loves the broken in spirit. He reaches out to them. He uses people to reach out to them. So often the poor are downtrodden- barely noticed by other people in society. They are looked down on and very often they are in need of healing. They need to know that they also belong. They belong to Jesus.
In the slums and small villages of Ratchaburi, there are so many people who are hungry for God. Many of them are living in the mistakes that they made that they never seemed to be able to solve. Some of them are living in the mistakes of their parents and grandparents.
In one particular area that we minister in, this is not the case. For them they are doing the best that they can to give their children the best life that they can. They come from the ‘Mon’ tribe in Myanmar. In Myanmar they are looked down on. In Thailand they are looked down on. But at least in Thailand, they can live happily with their families without their lives being endangered. Many of the young adults have barely even been back to Myanmar and most of the children of school going age were born in Thailand and have never set foot in Myanmar.
We have been reaching out to this community in many different ways. Teaching the Bible, playing sport together, showing evangelistic movies, taking the children on camping trips, celebrating Christmas together – we want them to know that God loves them, and that they may not feel like they belong in Thailand, or in Burma, but they do belong to Him and He wants to be in relationship with them.
It is not only the poor that need someone to reach out a helping hand, but also those that are poor in spirit -broken hearted and deeply in need of an answer for their lives. There is a prison in Ratchaburi with around 4000 prisoners. Within that prison there is a group of 150 men who have given their lives to Jesus – they may not know much about God, but they do know that He can reach them, even though they are surrounded by prison walls day in and day out. We take volunteers into the prison to teach them the Bible. We are the hands that reach out to those men to see them growing in their faith. We are God’s body – His hands reaching out to those in need no matter who they are and what they have done.
