Pattaya
Slum Ministries is a ministry committed to helping the poor help themselves,
through education and skills training.
Secondly, we provide short-term relief through periodic distribution
of basic necessities such as water, rice and/or noodles as the need
arises. We even find ourselves doing some basic health care from time
to time. Sometimes we do up to 40 kids at a time!
The Center
Currently, we have two set meeting places where we teach English
and have a cell group. In the near future, we want to have a building
located near our slum that will serve as an educational center for
the poor. We hope to have books for children and adults, as well
as English classes for interested individuals. In the future, we
hope to offer guitar lessons, periodic health clinics and special
skills training courses thus improving the quality of life for the
slum people.
Kids Club Program
Kids Clubs located in two slums provide activities geared
for children ages 6-12. The goal is to educate children about the
dangers of drugs, HIV/AIDS and other problems facing families living
in slums. As well, our desire is to share the love of Jesus with them.
For the most part, we partner with other local ministries who have
visiting international teams who come to volunteer their time and
energies for our Kids Club program. We often take teams to visit the
people in the slums, assessing their needs and visiting their homes.
Teams can then offer help with whatever is needed at that time. (i.e.
rice, drinking water, noodles etc.).
Volunteers
We are always open to have volunteers come and serve alongside us.
Doctors and nurses are also welcome to come and help us do primary
health care clinics for the slum people.
If
your team or group is interested in coming
to volunteer with any of our programs,
please contact the Outreach
Teams Department
at our National Office directly.
Fast Facts
about Pattaya
Pattaya
city stretches for about 15 km along the Gulf of Thailand, 150 km
south of Bangkok. Though its registered population is only 70,000
people, Pattaya has as many as 2 million tourist visitors each year.
Originally a small fishing village of only a hundred families, the
Vietnam war brought discovery by the western world and Pattaya soon
became the official "R & R" center for American armed forces. Shops
services, bars and hotels grew to meet the demand. The tourism boom
followed and nowadays, Pattaya is a thriving resort destination.
