A Rural Christmas
60 women.
10 village projects.
1 BIG party.
8 Kingdom decisions.
5 healings.
Now that’s Christmas!
Oh, it was fun! Suphit Sompharn, leader of Rural Women’s Development in Aranyaprathet, situated on the Thai-Cambodian border, was expecting maybe 35 women to her annual Christmas party. The ladies come from 10 small villages, where they must catch the once-a-day bus-truck that passes their village. If they miss it, they have to stay home. This time, they really, really wanted to be at the RWD party, so 60 showed up! On time!
Suphit ran out of chairs, but not out of food – everyone came bearing pots and plates of food, from sticky rice to deep fried beetles. It’s the one time a year the ladies can meet all together – each groups runs an RWD project in their village, maybe weaving, maybe raising mushrooms, silkworms, frogs or vegetables. They come knowing they will have a time of fun and food, games and gifts. This year though, they got more – 8 of the ladies met the Giver of life, Jesus Christ, and went home with eternal life. One of them couldn’t stop smiling and crying. All she kept saying was ‘Good! Good! Good!’. Five others had Jesus heal their pains and sicknesses. That’s Christmas – Jesus’ style!
