April 2006 Update

SunriseToday the Thai New Year has begun mostly everything is closed. The people are visiting there families in order to celebrate the New Year. The oldest family members will be “blessed” with water from the younger generation. After that, you will be “blessed” with buckets of water, which are thrown at you in the streets. For days, you will have no dry clothes.

We also have a celebration during this time, the celebration of Easter, the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus. Our Church goes early in the morning at 6.00 am to the cemetery and there we celebrate the feast of Easter together with other Churches. We see the sunrise; a new day; a new year, where we can welcome again the “Light” which came into this world. This year we were also “blessed” with buckets of water!

"Aey"In January "Aey" (right) graduated from the University. It was a joyful day for her. Her mother came to be with her. We are very proud of her. Now she is still working with the Tsunami victims in the South.

In February two of our girls were baptized and we praise God for that!

The two girls who had disappeared were found. One of them is still with us as the other one is living with her father. We saw the battle in their lives to give up, but God’s love was stronger.

All the girls passed their exams and they enjoy the holiday. Some have been visiting their families. They are dreaming of becoming beauty specialist, a social worker, a layer, a teacher, a bookkeeper.

New Home The new home for the younger girls is nearly finished. We still need to put in the water system by digging a well and building a water reservoir. We hope that there will be more girls rescued and healed from their past. We are planning to go on a camp at the beach with all the girls and staff and their families. Will you pray for a save travel?

Thank you for all your support and prayer, both are we building into the lives of our girls. May God bless you and your families.

Sept 2005 Update

Making FoodRecently, I watched a DVD from Henry Nouwen, and what struck me again was that he said, "We are His beloved daughters and sons.” It has nothing to do with what we do or what we do not do or how we live our lives. No, we are His beloved daughters and sons!

What a future we have in knowing this truth.

There are still many daughters (and sons) out here in Thailand, who are longing to know this truth. Many who are in a net of pain and rejection, not knowing that they are the beloved?

We went to visit a girl 13 years old, who was abused at age 12. She had left school. Her mother, (with husband #3), did not protect her or was able to help her. Her brother used her for his own dark practices and the only option for her was to live with her brother’s friend. When meeting her, she was happy to get out of the situation and come to live with us, but when we went to pick her up a couple of days later, she had disappeared and “no one” knew where she was. She turned up a week later and not even looking at us, she said she did not want to come anymore. She did not have the freedom to make a choice.

All our girls are still praying for her, they had already made room for her and were excited to have her join the family of “Baan Phak Phing” (House of Refuge). They are also excited about our new plans:

  • A home for younger girls age 6-12 who are also sex. abused
  • A halfway home for the older girls before they will leave us

We were very happy that an organization donated money to buy a piece of land close to our other homes last April. Now we are in the process of having the drawings made for the buildings. During my furlough, the staff and the girls made a boundary made out of bamboo trees. They feel now that they own it! There are also many fruit trees and every day they were watching the fruits to ripen. One day they were not too happy to find that people in the neighborhood had taken the fruits!

In our last letter, we asked special prayer for Fon, who was very confused about her identity. She is doing much better and together with her parents, we were able to help her. She is more confident and happy.

Staff Our staff is doing very well and they really have a heart for the girls. They did very well during the 3 months I was away on furlough. Phae who is leading one home is praying about doing a Discipleship Trainings Course for 5 months. If you feel like helping her in the costs, please let me know. It will be an encouragement to her. If she is going, we do need new staff to replace her during that time.

Will you pray with us for the right person to join us?

We like you to pray for Aey (not her real name), who is going through a hard time. She is very interested in going out alone with boys and she fell into a trap that was set up. She was so sad that she was not able to say no to them. It really was a painful situation. She has hard times in knowing what is right and wrong in different areas. She really accepted the Lord, but the temptations are all around her.

Will you pray with us for?

  • wisdom for the staff
  • wisdom for the building projects and finance
  • Gods work in them and us
  • freedom for the girl mentioned in the above story to make the choice to come to us
  • "Aey" in making the right decisions
  • Phae who is praying in doing a DTS

Thank you so much for all your support to us. May God bless you in serving Him.
