YWAM-DTS in Chaing Rai

Discipleship Training Schools aim to prepare messengers of the Gospel, helping people to know God in depth. The goal is to form Christian character while establishing biblical relationships between the student and God, and between the student and his family and friends. The emphasis is on developing a daily walk with God rather than to accumulate information. This program consists of three months of classroom teaching and two months in active evangelism in a cross cultural setting. The motto of Youth With A Mission is: To Know God and to Make Him Known. This is the purpose of the DTS.

Paul Wilcox started the Chiang Rai bi-lingual DTS in 2006 and has run schools yearly since; prior to 2006 the DTS was only in Thai. The schools historically have had an even mixture of Thai and International students that come from all over the world (ex. South Africa, Australia, U.S.A., Canada, Philippines, Malaysia, England).

Currently we run our DTS in Chiang Rai once a year with the lecture phase beginning in January. After 4 weeks of lectures we split into teams and have a two-week outreach into Chiang Rai province. After the second 4 weeks of lectures we go on a two-week “faith” outreach into the Northern provinces of Thailand. Then after lectures are finished we go on a five-week outreach into all parts of Thailand and the surrounding nations. The vision of YWAM Chiang Rai is to reach out within Thailand and strategically into the surrounding nations of Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China. We hope to send teams into these countries in the upcoming DTS schools. In the 2008 DTS one team went into Cambodia for a week.
