YWAM Thailand - Helping Thais reach their destiny in Christ

February 2005 - Outreach Update

Putting It Into Practice

2005 SOWAfter spending three months learning about worship, what do the students and staff of the School of Worship do on outreach? Well, they teach, visit prisoners, hand out gift boxes to children and, of course, lead worship!

From May 13th to July 8th, seven SOW students and three staff toured Thailand seeking to bless those they ministered too in each location. They began their outreach in Khon Kaen where they taught in the Discipleship Training School. Following this, they traveled to Pattaya where they spent time teaching at Tamar Center, a YWAM Thailand ministry that focuses on prostitution recovery. They also spent time with the local skateboarding youth of Pattaya, did some prison ministry, and lead worship in several churches. Their third week of outreach saw the group return "home" to Bangkok where they lead worship for various ministries and hosted a worship seminar.

Kids in Phang Nga After this, it was time to move on yet again and the group headed south to Phang Nga and Khao Lak to minister to those affected by the tsunami. The group did several mini-concerts at a variety of venues as well as worked with children. They taught the kids guitar songs and English. They also had the privilege of handing out boxes of useful items and goodies to the children provided by Samaritan's Purse. (These boxes were extras from Christmas that were sent to bless the children of tsunami affected areas.) This quickly became a favorite part of ministry for the team as they went to schools (sometimes two or three in one day) to pass out the "Christmas" boxes.

Finally, the SOW team had a time of debriefing in Phuket before heading back to Khao Lak. There, they said good-bye to one of the SOW students who stayed to work with a YWAM ministry called "Step Ahead". The group returned to Bangkok and as one of the SOW leader's said, "It (outreach) was a growing time for us and I believe we spread (God's) blessing in each place we visited."
